The summer vacation started last week, and I feel very excited about the upcoming two months. My parents and I have already made a plan for this special summer, which includes learning new skills, spending time with family, and exploring the natural world. I believe this summer will be both meaningful and unforgettable.
First, I want to learn how to swim. Last year, I watched my cousin swim in the pool and thought it looked so easy and fun. However, I was too scared to try it myself. This summer, I’ve decided to take swimming lessons at the community pool. My parents will help me practice every afternoon after dinner. I know it might be challenging at first, especially when I’m in the water. But I’ve already tried wearing floaties and kicking my legs, and I made some progress. I’m looking forward to the day when I can swim across the pool without fear.
In addition to swimming, I’ve planned to explore our city’s parks and nature reserves. There are three main places I want to visit. The first is Green Lake Park, where I can ride my bike along the lakeside path. The second is Mountain View Nature Reserve, which has beautiful trails perfect for hiking. The third is the Botanical Garden, where I can learn about different flowers and plants. Every weekend, my parents and I will choose one place to visit. I’ve already downloaded a map app to help me navigate, and I’m excited to discover new corners of our city.
Another important part of my summer plan is helping my family. I’ll start by doing simple chores like washing dishes, sweeping the floor, and folding clothes. On weekends, I’ll help my parents prepare breakfast or cook some snacks. When I finish my homework, I’ll also assist my younger sister with her math exercises. My parents said that helping at home will teach me responsibility. Although it might take some time to get used to doing things on my own, I think it’s a good way to show my love and support.
I’ve also decided to join a summer reading program at the library. Every Monday and Wednesday, I’ll read for 30 minutes and write a short summary. The books I’ve chosen include The Magic Tree House series, Charlotte’s Web, and The Little Prince. I’ll keep a reading journal to record my favorite sentences and interesting stories. My teacher said that reading can improve my English and imagination. I’m especially excited about the book club meeting at the end of July, where I can share my thoughts with other kids.
However, I know that not everything will go exactly as planned. Sometimes the weather might be bad and prevent us from going hiking. Other times, I might forget to do my chores or feel too tired after swimming lessons. But I’ve learned from school that the most important thing is to stay positive and try again. If I face difficulties, I’ll talk to my parents or teachers for help. After all, mistakes are part of growing up, right?
As the summer progresses, I’ll keep track of my progress in a small notebook. I’ll write down the new skills I’ve learned, the places I’ve visited, and the things I’ve improved. By the end of August, I hope to have completed all my goals. Most importantly, I want to remember the happy moments with my family and friends, the exciting adventures in nature, and the sense of accomplishment when I achieve something difficult.
This summer vacation means more than just fun and games to me. It’s a time to learn, explore, and help others. I’m looking forward to every day because I know that every small effort will bring me closer to becoming a better version of myself. When autumn comes, I’ll look back at these two months and feel proud of what I’ve achieved. That’s why I say: summer is not just a season, but a journey of growth and discovery.
